Silk Loom, Kanchipuram (1 hour)

You will be picked up from your hotel in Chennai and driven to Kanchipuram that is situated at a distance of 50 miles from Chennai. The drive to Kanchipuram takes around two and a half hours.

On reaching Kanchipuram visit a silk loom and watch the amazing art of weaving silk from mulberry string. The rich colors of the silks are bound to leave you mesmerized. Interact with the silk weavers and learn more about their art.

Kailasanathar Temple, Kanchipuram (1 hour)

Next visit Kailasanathar Temple, the oldest structure in Kanchipuram. The elegantly carved sculptures of Gods and Goddesses on the temple walls are still intact. The main shrine has a 16 sided Shiva Lingam (phallic symbol of God Shiva) made of black granite.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Chennai in the morning and driven to Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located at a distance of 50 miles from Chennai and the drive takes around an hour.

Upon reaching the sanctuary your guide will show you around the area. The sanctuary is dotted with several small lakes that make for a favorite feeding ground for birds. In the 18th century, the area was a hunting spot for the local landlords.

The sanctuary is well structured with paved paths and watchtowers and benches for bird watchers. You can take a close view of the birds from here.

Established by the Pallava kings in the 4th century AD, Kanchipuram served as their capital for 500 years and continued to flourish throughout the Chola, Pandya and Vijayanagar eras. Under the Pallavas, it was an important scholastic forum and meeting point for Jain, Buddhist and Hindu cultures. Today Hindu temples alone dominate the town, spanning the years from the peak of Pallava construction to the 17th century, when ornamentation of the Gopurams and pillared halls was at its most elaborate.
